EDUCATIONAL DEPTH
A Legacy of Resilience
"We approach Rwanda with humility, curiosity, and reverence. We are here to learn, not to judge."
Contextual History Overview
The history of Rwanda is one of profound complexity, ancient tradition, and remarkable social engineering. Long before colonial interference, Rwanda existed as a sophisticated kingdom with shared language (Kinyarwanda) and fluid social structures.
The tragic events of 1994 were not inevitable, but the result of decades of manipulated ethnic tension. Since then, the nation has embarked on a journey of 'Ubumuntu' (Greatness of Heart), choosing reconciliation over revenge.
Today, the National Unity and Reconciliation Commission leads initiatives that integrate traditional justice (Gacaca) with modern legal systems, creating a model that scholars and leaders from around the world come to study.
We approach this history with humility, acknowledging that we are guests in a story of profound healing.
